Meet Maddy TasiniHi its Maddy Tasini. I live with a mental health condition. I live with being anxious all day long, going to doctor after doctor trying to find solution to my own mental illness called anxiety and psychosis. Psychosis hinders my time alone because the illness creates voices based on real events in my life. It hinders my sleep and my eating habits. I still don’t know what my diagnosis is after living a whole year with this new illness.
I was living with this illness for six months that I wouldn’t get out of the house some days and I was depressed. I was living with a new beginning in Florida where I only had very few friends and where I was not supported for being religious anymore. I went from having tons of friends to having two friends. It wasn’t until I began screaming at my parents one night in beginning of January that my mental illness became a reality. I was living with hearing voices and not being on the right medicine for six months. After I went to a treatment center in Stuart, I began to open up to my doctor and she began to prescribe me the right medicine. I continued working with this psychiatrist where I can reach her at anytime to talk to her in and out of the office. Whenever I go in for an appointment she spends 45 minutes with me After I went through recovery, I began to become a mental health group facilitator. As a peer group facilitator, I help people dealing with mental illness. I help them with creating structure and routine. I help them find coping skills in order to deal with living everyday with a mental illness. In addition, I am starting my own business to help coach people with mental illness on how to live a functioning and healthy lifestyle. As their mental health coach, I am able to help people by showing them how to create a routine, listen to them about their struggles, and find a way for them to cope with everyday illness. I help give them a safe space and I have experiences just like them who lives with a mental illness too. Nowadays I am in school for Counseling at Nova Southeastern University and I hope to use this degree to further my skills and knowledge to help people with mental health conditions. I hope to use this business to bridge the gap between recovery and living everyday life with a mental illness. I hope to use my own experiences and the tools I have learned through recovery to teach people ways to cope and live a life where they can feel happy too. . |
